Wind across the world
Renewable energy is a hot topic at the moment. Sustainable energy is actually more beneficial in the long term, in both financial and environmental terms. Developments in Europe in this field have not gone unnoticed in the rest of the world. We are now looking at opportunities in Asia and the Americas.
Offshore wind growing beyond Europe
In Western Europe and China, the proportion of offshore wind energy that meets our overall energy needs is ever increasing. We have now achieved grid parity. But in the rest of the world, wind is still relatively unknown as a source of energy. But that will soon change. The Global Wind Report published by the Global Wind Energy Council (GWEC) found that wind energy will grow considerably in the next five to ten years, from 487 GW in 2016 to 800 GW in 2021.
Offshore wind: growing markets
Offshore wind energy is rapidly gaining market share in Asia and the USA especially. New offshore wind farms in these regions are largely developed with local production chains. We believe our European expertise is a huge resource that Asia and the USA can take advantage of. That’s why we are hard at work exploring these markets in depth. And the first few partnerships have even been formed already.
Sif in Asia
In 2017, we entered into two partnerships in Asia. With Century Wind Power Co. based in Taiwan and Sato Tekko in Japan, we want to focus on offshore wind energy in the region. So, that same year, we signed a declaration of intent with Century and Sato Tekko. Together we have set out our objectives. The declarations confirm that we will explore opportunities to work together. These partnerships will allow us to produce monopiles and transition pieces for the Asian market.
Both Sato Tekko and Century have experience in producing large-scale technical products. Sato Tekko is a Japanese steel producer, whose constructions include bridges and locks. Century, on the other hand, has a proven reputation in the Taiwanese steel industry.
We at Sif have experience in producing and transporting large monopiles and transition pieces. For our part, we will bring our own equipment developed in-house, our technical and logistical expertise, and our commercial experience of the international market to Japan and Taiwan.
We are convinced that these partnerships will be our first step to conquering the offshore wind market in Asia and the USA.
